What happens if I do not achieve the published grades for Sixth Form entry?
Every year a number of students do not achieve the published entrance grades. It may be that you do not achieve a Grade 5 in English Language or Maths, or you miss the requirement in one of the A Level subjects which you want to study. Try not to worry if this happens, as we move quickly to resolve such issues.
The School Governors control our admissions process, so they need to be made aware of cases where students wish to come to Calday but have not met our criteria. These cases are referred to the Governors’ Appeal Panel which sits on Friday 21st August.
Contact the school to discuss with SLT
Any student who has not met the criteria and wishes to be considered for entry will need to discuss their situation with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) on Thursday 20th August. Following discussions with individuals on results day, if appropriate, SLT may be able to offer a provisional place, before passing the recommendation to the Governors Appeal Panel to ratify the decision. Most cases can be processed quickly, for example if a student achieves the grades to study their main subjects but does not achieve a Grade 5 in Maths or English Language.
The Governors will make a decision on entry on Friday 21st August, and you will be contacted by the end of the day with an outcome. If the panel does not offer you a place, you will be provided with further information about the next steps if appropriate.
